Decorating ideas can come in all shapes, sizes, and styles.  Wall art is no different as it too comes in all shapes, sizes, and styles.  There are many choices out there and the best place to start is with the types of things that will compliment, or enhance, what is already in the room.

Home decor is very personal.  It is representational of those who live in the home, giving a bird’s eye insight to the home owner’s personalities, their favorite colors, and their sense of style.  A few pointers for some good decorating ideas are to start with a painting or a picture.  If the room is more of a Southwestern style, then cowboy art or Native American Indian art might be the place to start looking.  If the room is traditional, then look for figurative canvas art.  This style of art, captivating the world around us, can have many different perspectives of a variety of objects.  Some of the things portrayed in a figurative art piece would be people, natural settings like wildlife or landscapes, buildings, or floral arrangements.  Maybe it is a modern influenced office space.  Something abstract or geometrical would work perfectly.  Abstract art, by definition, will have either no or virtually no trace or resemblance to anything recognizable.  This is a perfect opportunity to add color and texture without compromising a professional work space.

Other decorating ideas would be to add sculptures into the mix.  There are great pieces out there that can be incorporated into the motif of any room.  The obvious types are figurine like.  The not so obvious type might be a hand sculpted lamp in a geometric shape.  Or something to the effect of a wall sconce that will hold a candle.  How about a unique base to a glass table, or a bust?  A bust can be of an animal or a person.  A great example would be to hang a bust of a stag on the wall next to a very rustic styled bed with a personal photograph taken of a nature scene that has been converted into a painting.  This would individualize the space and make it unique. If there is large furniture in a room, then the art needs to be large as well.  A great way to add volume is to buy a triptych art piece.  This is a three piece canvas painting or carving that is typically displayed on a horizontal fashion.  This style of art will take an object or an entire scene and dissect it into three individual pieces to be displayed together on a wall.

There are quite literally numerous decorating ideas that can be found all over the internet!  Jot down a few statements of what the room or rooms look like.  Add to the list a few things that draw interest and that could be added to the space.  Note floor and wall colorings as well as the furniture and the prominent colors of the furniture that is in each of the rooms needing to be updated.  Are there wood accent pieces?  Is there natural lighting or is it all fluorescent?  Decorating ideas are best formed when the person steps back and studies the space prior to adding any other pieces.  A simple addition of a painting can change the entire vibe of the room.
